Cooper Electrical Services at Myrtle Beach Dragon Boat Festival
Team Cooper is gearing up for another fun-filled day at the 10th Annual Ground Zero Dragon Boat Festival. Cooper Electrical Services with join team members at Cooper Mechanical Services at Grand Lake in Market Common to race other community members in a dragon boat race. The 2018 Dragon Boat Festival will take place in Myrtle Beach’s Market Common on April 28th, 9AM-4PM.
For Cooper employees, the event is a day to celebrate and have some fun off of the job site. Last year Team Cooper finished in a close 2nd place. The day-long event with food, drinks, and games provides an opportunity for employees to come together and just hang out.
Each 21-member dragon boat must race across the lake using only paddles and sheer strength and willpower. The race is all in good fun, though. Teams often decorate their boats and wear costumes, and the competition is sure to include plenty of cheering and laughs. More importantly, the proceeds from the festival and race will benefit outreach organizations serving teens.
Dragon boat racing is over 2,000 years old, originating in China’s Pearl River Delta region. The tradition is now practiced all over the world, and boat races often feature Chinese dragon heads affixed to bows and traditional drumming to keep rowers in time.
If you think you have what it takes to challenge Team Cooper, or if you’d like to come out and see what it’s all about, check out the event website.
