Commercial Generator Service Agreements

If you invested in your generator, Cooper Electrical Services’ Commercial Service Agreements are an excellent way to extend your generator’s life and ensure its efficiency and effectiveness.

Commercial Service Agreements are custom maintenance and service contracts. Most contracts are annual and specific customer needs.

Scope of work: Planned Generator Maintenance Services.

Quarterly Inspections & Tests

Cooling Air & Engine Air Intake/Exhaust

  • Inspect air filter condition and air intake manifold for leaks.
  • Check air restriction indicator, if applicable.
  • Inspect expansion tube, exhaust muffler, and exhaust pipe for carbon monoxide leaks and corrosion. 
  • Check condition and operation of rain cap. 
  • Check mechanically-operated louvers for proper operation. 
  • Inspect condensate trap on muffler and empty, if accessible. 
  • Check alternator cooling air fan for obstructions and proper operation. 
Engine Cooling System
  • Inspect radiator, cap, piping, and hoses for leaks, cracking, and corrosion.
  • Tighten all hose clamps.
  • Check coolant level, color, and condition. 
  • Inspect water pump for leaks. 
  • Inspect belts for proper tension, alignment, and excessive wear. 
  • Check block heater for proper temperature operation. 

 Engine Fuel System

  • Inspect and record main tank and day tank fuel levels. 
  • Check all hoses, clamps, pipes, and fittings for leaks. 
  • Tighten all clamps and filters. 
  • Inspect governor for linkage. 
  • Check tank vents and piping for obstructions. 
  • Check gas lines and regulator(s) for leaks and proper venting. 

Engine Lubrication System

  • Check oil level.
  • Check oil filters for leaks and tightness.
  • Check crankcase for proper ventilation.

Battery & Charger System 

  • Inspect battery for leaks.
  • Check battery terminals, cables, and starter connections for corrosion and tighten connections. 
  • Check battery charger for proper operations for settings. 
  • Record battery voltage and charger amp output rate, if available. 
  • Check and record engine charging alternator voltage. 
  • Test and record battery starting voltage and CCA. 
  • Check vent cap and electrolyte level of each cell, if available. 
Generator Control & Power Systems
  • Operate output breaker(s) and test the trip function if a test button is available. 
  • Inspect all engine transducers, senders, and devices for mechanical damage and electrical insulation. 
  • Inspect generator controller, wiring, and enclosure. 
  • Check controller heater operation if present. 

Generator System Operations

  • Manually run generator to nominal operating temperature; record engine and generator readings. 
  • Run engine and ensure proper operations of cooling fan, belts, and mechanical louvers. 
Annual Generator Services:
Engine Maintenance Services
  • Drain and replace engine lubrication oil. 
  • Replace primary and secondary lubrication filters. 
  • Replace fuel filter(s). 
  • Replace coolant filters if present. 
  • Drain condensate from fuel/water separators. 
  • Use Accustrip CTS-4 to test coolant properties and record Supplemental Coolant Additives (SCA) levels.
Operator Safety & Housekeeping
  • Check emergency shutdown(s) for proper operations. 
  • Inspect fan shrouds and guards for corrosion and proper safety operations. 
  • Check ingress/egress doors and lighting in generator room. 
Alternator & Power Breaker(s)
  • Remove breaker enclosure covers and tighten connections. 
  • Inspect conductor insulation for corrosion, overheating, and deterioration. 
Annual Testing & Certification
  • Perform NFPA 110 Annual Generator—ATS System Test using Emergency Power Building Loads. 
  • Provide Annual Certification for Insurance & Fire Marshall requirements.
